Great Decor

great decor!!!! we had great service both times i've went over the last 2 years. the waitress/waiters are very nice. music is not fitting to the sultan's tent as its not a very middle eastern vibe compared to what the decor and presentation is like when being promoted. its basically a very much bar type crowd and scene - except with an eastern decor. the food - don't bother. i've tried the hummus, chipotle salad, and their beef sandwich and the morrocan mint tea. your better off eating elsewhere if your about the food. the tea is NOT morrocan tea, they put peppermint with the mint. I was expecting ONLY mint in my tea but the peppermint killed it for me. overall nothing wrong with the place if your into the bar scene. I am not a bar person, thus this place is not appealing to me anymore. decor is very nice though.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I had an awful experience with this place and will never return. i had booked my mom's 60th birthday (surprise party) there for 15 people. Only a few days before the party I received a call that they "forgot" they booked a wedding on the same night and my reservations would have to be canceled. Not only that but all they could offer me instead was a a round of drinks on the house. The staff was rude, unprofessional and irresponsible, and I would NOT reccommend this place for anyone planning on having a function here.

Food good, entertainment better...

The food was generally pretty good and the menu offered some more interesting-sounding than average things (which I appreciate--I love trying new things), but let's face it, the food is GROSSLY overpriced. And my choice of main (rack of lamb with prune sauce and couscous) really wasn't very good....but on the flipside, the Morrocan tea was a wonderful experience. However, this is a place where ambiance and entertainment rule all. There are belly dancers that dance around as you lounge about in your lovely sultan inspired tents (yes, you can actually sit in a very Morracan inspired tent with pillows and other appropriate Morracan decor). This is really fun and beautiful--although I was disappointed that there was only cheesey Arabian techno music playing as the bellydancing went on, as opposed to a live band (would have made things much more authentic)... All in all, you are paying for the whole experience I guess--food, decor and entertainment. This place helps you "escape" for the night, and that's worth something, right?

underwhelmed

*** As with the reviewer below me, my experience prompted me to give out my e-mail, details, etc. to a site that I only seldom use in order to write my first restaurant review. Take that as you will... I question the positive reviews from generic, possibly made-up, user names, but perhaps you should be the judge after reading a page or two of the reviews. I'll start off by saying that you should consider going for the entertainment value, as in, not the food. Anyone recommending the place purely on the value or uniqueness of the food is either very misguided, non-objective, or has yet to taste many restaurants. But I digress... the belly dancing is amusing, but only if you have never seen belly dancing before, which was the case for some people in my party. We had never really seen it and I thought that was perhaps the best part of my experience. On with the food... the food was severely overpriced. I felt like it was the keg or med grill packaged with couches and purple/gold drapes - certainly nothing above those two very generic names, therefore, the food alone does not warrant the $50 per person bill. To add insult to injury, certain courses are very embellished on the menu. While "bowl of olives" does the appetizer dish justice, the "morrocan treat" for dessert consisted simply of half an orange without the peel, and milano cookie dipped in chocolate at one end. Oh wait... Milano cookies are already dipped in chocolate at one end. Therefore, just half an orange and a milano cookie. The creme brullee was alright, but not worth the extra $4.00. I felt that I was paying a decent value for the extras, and had been simply charged $50 for the belly dancing show and a plate of lamb. On with the service... no complaints here. What you would expect from a place that charges this price. CONCLUSION - go for the dancing, if you have never seen belly dancing before, or will never see it again... as you should not expect the food to wow you, or justify the price by itself.

Why is this place so busy?

Wow, what can I say about this place? I joined my wife with her co-workers on the 13th of March and was sadly disappointed. So much it prompt me to write my first restaurant review. I am far from being financially set however do not mind spending money on a positive dining experience. The Sultan’s Tent, severely disappointed. The GOOD: Good old friend Lagavulin never disappoints and in this restaurant I needed him more then ever! The Bad: Service and entertainment. The wait staff was extremely pushy and we were unable to finish our food to attempt to sit another table in that night. I get the paying extra for entertainment deal. They had two girls dancing at below par at best with no live music. The Ugly: The food! I ended up paying $200 for two people and feel like I was ripped off $170. Even my old friend lagavulin wasn't enough to enjoy my night. The food was very bland and was overrated. I was told that the rack of lamb was "rated the best in Toronto" (suckered like fellow reviewer Samantha) and was very disappointed. I'm not sure why this place is busy, however I will not return and do not recommend this place to anyone.
