There’s nothing George Iliadis loves more than a mean game of chess and a sharp pair of scissors. Take a stroll along Toronto’s Queen Street East and you might find George with sheers in hand, or sitting in the window of Broadview Beauty Parlour trying to checkmate a newly styled customer.
“I’m the best in town,” he says, speaking not of the game, but of his way with hair. George has been styling Riverside's locks in the same location with the same wallpaper since 1964 and, while you may think a man of his seasoned skills would be dated, George's old-school looks can be deceiving.
“If I was not doing good haircuts I would have been out of business years ago,” he says. “I do everything.” And at $25 a cut (for both men and women), he’s definitely worth a try.
Maybe he has been cutting hair too long because he gives the worst haircuts . Others have mentioned that he is a nice guy . I find him to be inflexible , cranky and mean spirited .
George is fixated on service and has been doing so for 50 years. It is a treat to see a small business have its doors open for that long. Go for the shave as well!
