Lorraine Lawson was only two years old when she stepped on stage in a church play and fell in love with performing. Now, more than two decades of musical training later, she’s sharing her passion as the proud owner of The Star Studio, a dynamic vocal coaching centre in Forest Hill.
“Performing is like playing. It’s so much fun. You can be someone else and the best of yourself at the same time,” says Lorraine, who took dancing and acting lessons throughout her childhood. It’s no wonder then that as a teen she went on to be cast as the lead in high school plays at the Etobicoke School for the Arts.
Her singing talent was innate. “I loved every style of music — musical theatre, jazz, rock,” Lorraine recalls. “But I felt the voice should be God-given, so I didn’t take lessons.”
Until, that is, she started suffering from vocal problems. “I’d sing my heart out then I couldn’t talk for two days.”
