When Sarah Shaw says she doesn’t run Shaw Studios for the money, you know she means it from her heart. Here is a lady who’ll create a piece of art in a couple of hours at a charity gala for donation to an auction at the end of the evening because she has the time and talent to help people in need.
The reason Sarah opened her gallery, space at Shaw Studios, in 2014 is two-fold. “I’m an artist and know what it’s like to find places to exhibit. I wanted to offer a space for exhibitions which was affordable and which also gave the Durham region somewhere for people to see and buy original art.”
Three galleries are complemented by a gift shop where jewellery, glass work, wood work and all kinds of artsy knick-knacks are stocked. “It’s a chance to come and find something unique and original for a birthday or hostess gift,” Sarah explains. The gallery’s space itself is tranquil and welcoming, a pleasure for visitors to browse in.
