“The idea behind Blue Sky Clothing Company is that all women can feel really beautiful regardless of their shape or size,” says owner and designer Marilyn Robinson. “We want all women to feel just as beautiful as they can.” Frustrated with her inability to find clothes that fit her average-sized mother, in 1997 Marilyn decided to launch her own clothing line out of the back of her Volkswagen van.
“I wanted to combine creating my own designs with the proper fit,” Marilyn says, “and to combine it all with travel, because I’ve always loved travel.” Marilyn sources her designs from the famed Javanese Batik artists of Indonesia, creating beautiful, elaborate prints and designs with wax, dye, and fabrics. Visiting the artisans in person, Marilyn is able to design and help produce her own unique, high-quality textiles with confidence that she’s ethically sourcing all of her materials.
